Type Locality and Naming

Northernmost Taiwan. Lower formation of Yeliu Gr. The type section is located at Dawulun, Jilong City, Taiwan Province. It was named by Yan C and Chen P in 1953 and re-surveyed by Zhou R. et al. in 1962. Original definition in Lin (1960).

Synonym: Mokusan Fm


Lithology and Thickness

It is characterized by the interbeds of grayish white sandstone, dark gray sandy shale, with coal seams. Foraminifera fossils are yielded. Combination of foraminifera zone is correlative to N4. The thickness is 450-700 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is conformable in contact to the underlying Wuzhishan Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformable in contact to the overlying Daliao Fm.

Regional extent

The formation is distributed in area from Jilong to Miaoli, northwestern Taiwan.
